For our Green Jobs Training Program we partnered with Goodwill Industries of Hawai`i in support of their Ola I Ka Hana program and Hawai`i State Workforce Development in support of their Summer Opportunity Work Experience program. These programs allowed us to serve the community by volunteering to deliver the program. Our program focused on two main areas of sustainable practices: 1. OFFline sustainability practices include knowledge, skills and abilities development in rainwater harvesting, growing food and using renewable energy sources for power. Off-the-grid skills arent the only lessons learned. Five trainees are learning “OFFline” sustainability and self-sufficiency practices including, sustainable gardening of food crops, rainwater harvesting storage and usage and renewable energy systems for off-the-grid living. 2. ONline sustainability practices include the development of skills which help trainees learn how to use the Internet to become economically self-sufficient. One goal of online sustainability training is to telecommute to earn revenue and improve the local economy. Five of the trainees learned ONline sustainability practices. This included learning several of the basic skills employers are demanding such as online marketing, search engine optimization and online collaborative communications. These online green technology jobs prepare trainees for remote collaboration and telecommuting jobs.
